WHAT TO EAT AND DRINK WHEN CYCLING
When doing sports, you must pay special attention to dehydration. During physical activity, the body expels water from the body more quickly. To prevent fatigue, headaches, and other unpleasant symptoms of dehydration, you need to replenish your fluids more frequently and in larger quantities. Drinking moderately every half hour will contribute to your physical well-being. The amount and frequency of drinking also depends on the current air temperature.
Even on the shortest bike ride, it is necessary to have a full bottle of water with you. Forget about sweetened and carbonated drinks, they are not a suitable option. As an alternative to plain water, you can choose special ion drinks with increased amounts of substances that help the body regenerate faster. You can also treat yourself to water with lemon juice. On the other hand, pure water will help you refresh your face on hot days after a strenuous hike uphill. Alcohol does not count as part of your drinking regime. We recommend avoiding it completely when cycling. The same rules apply when cycling as when driving motor vehicles. So instead of alcohol, treat yourself to diluted fruit juice.
It is not only important to eat well during a cycling trip. You should think about your diet before, during, and after exercise. It is essential to follow two rules: do not overeat and avoid fatty and sweet foods.
Don’t go on an empty stomach, you’ll quickly lose strength. A light breakfast consisting of healthy fats (nuts, avocado), vegetables, fruit, and fiber will give you the energy you need.
Protein energy bars are ideal for replenishing your energy. They provide your body with the protein it needs and minimal sugar.
It is recommended to eat a light meal after riding, such as a salad with whole grain bread or a warm soup.
As with lunch, it is important not to overeat at dinner. Avoid heavy meals. Choose lighter foods consisting mainly of vegetables or legumes.
